To our friends, Calle Flora, Summer 2008
This canvas comprises just a few of the features that make visits to your home in the
desert so memorable.
In this composition, water had to play a starring role, since
the pool was the focus of most of our gatherings, and a refreshing element whose very presence made the hot days seem cool.
While swimming, and at night while lounging with exotic cocktails by
the pool, my eye was irresistibly drawn to the texture of the palm tree
trunks at the end
of the pool. It would make an intriguing texture for the background, and when it was overlaid on the photo of pool side at night, and an image of filigree from the desk, I had a beginning.
Asian statues set a tone and had to be — not just included — but featured for the tranquil aura and distinctive atmosphere they impart.
The silver leaf dish on the table one imagines having been sent by a grateful guest, and reminds us again of the welcome atmosphere always found here. The warm gold light emanating from silk globes in the great room — the heart of the home — beckon revelers to convene and exchange tales and ideas.
The gong represents the daily call to gather at Calle Flora for
the renewing of friendships, and enjoying the generosity of our hosts.
An element from my own family was added at the last — two Fu Dogs,
a gift to my mother many years ago to discourage evil spirits and
wrong-doers — were overlaid on the outlines at the top of its frame.
The senses soar, inspired by stylish spaces, texture, and color reflected
in every detail from flowering plants, to towering tropical trees—through sumptuous fabrics and burnished woods, books on splendid architecture, and the music of abundant laughter. The romantic appointments of the place combine to create an atmosphere of energy and equanimity,
and reassure every visitor that he is indeed, invited to relax and enjoy. |
